Tonnes of parsnips unsold because of low price offered by supermarkets
8 tonnes of parsnips were saved from being left to rot by volunteers from The Gleaning Network. The supermarket was offering too low a price for it to be economically viable for the farmer to harvest, pack and transport the parsnips. 20-40% of produce grown on farms doesn't make it out of the ground or off the trees.
